On August 1, The Pavilion at Star Lake turned into one big party when “Weird Al” Yankovic and Puddles Pity Party took the stage for a night full of fun, music, and laughs.

Opening the night was everyone’s favorite depressed, baritone-singing clown, Puddles Pity Party. Playing through a nine-song set of covers and originals, Puddles knew exactly how to keep the crowd entertained. Covers such as “I’m Always Chasing Rainbows” by Harry Carroll, “Come On Up to the House” by Tom Waits, and “Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne were just a few highlights from the set.

Multiple times throughout the performance, Puddles wandered into the crowd searching for the perfect audience member to join him onstage for the next song. Between the covers, he also performed a couple of original songs from his latest record, including “America Today” and “In the End.” To close out his set, Puddles once again ventured into the audience to find one final volunteer before ending with a mashup of “Under Pressure” and “Let It Go,” leaving the crowd energized and ready for the night’s headliner, “Weird Al”.

As the lights dimmed, the anticipation in the crowd reached its peak. A video played across the massive screen while the band took their places onstage. Once the intro video ended, the band launched into “Tacky” as the audience watched “Weird Al” make his way from backstage to the stage on the big screen. After joining the band and finishing the opening number, “Weird Al” kept the party going with fan favorites including “Polkamania!,” “Smells Like Nirvana,” and “Dare to Be Stupid.”

Between several songs, the band exited the stage while humorous video clips played, giving everyone enough time for the costume changes that have become a signature part of a Weird Al performance. About a quarter of the way through the set, “Weird Al” treated fans to a medley featuring songs such as “Party in the CIA,” “My Bologna,” “Eat It,” “Like a Surgeon,” and “Word Crimes,” keeping the energy high from start to finish.

The fun continued with performances of “Fat,” “It’s My World (and We’re All Living in It),” “Now You Know,” “eBay,” “White & Nerdy,” and “Amish Paradise.” Saving his biggest crowd-pleasers for last, “Weird Al” returned for the encore to perform “The Saga Begins” and “Yoda,” sending the audience home with smiles on their faces after an unforgettable night of comedy, music, and pure entertainment.
