After once turning heartbreak into her breakthrough hit “Moral of the Story,” Ashe is looking back at love, marriage, and the freedom to choose differently.

There is something strangely beautiful about writing a song called “Stop The Wedding!” on your own wedding day.

For Ashe, that contradiction became the starting point for her newest song.

On August 7, the singer-songwriter released “Stop The Wedding!,” her first on Atlantic Records. A music video, directed by Silken Weinberg, accompanies the song, and in it Ashe reflects on love from a place she couldn’t have reached a few years ago — older, more sure of herself, and finally knowing she has the power to change her mind.

The inspiration came during Ashe’s wedding last year, when she married fellow musician John Clark Canada at a ceremony outside Nashville.

It should have been a moment of uncomplicated happiness. Instead, standing in the middle of her own perfect wedding day, Ashe found herself thinking about the wedding that came before it.

The first marriage was short-lived. But its aftermath changed her life forever and eventually became the story behind “Moral of the Story,” the song that helped turn Ashe into an international artist.

“I was thinking about how absolutely perfect my wedding day was,” Ashe recalls, “and how horrifying the first wedding was.”

There is a lot packed into that contrast. One wedding left her with a story she needed to survive. The other gave her the space to recognize how much she had changed.

At 23, Ashe says she did not feel the same sense of control over her own life. Years later, she realized that marriage did not have to mean giving that freedom away.

“I was in my 30s, and I just kept thinking about how much autonomy I have in it,” she says. “If this didn’t feel right for some reason, I could totally put a halt to this whole thing.”

That realization became “Stop The Wedding!”

Rather than simply being another breakup song or a dramatic pop fantasy, the track feels like a conversation with her younger self. It’s about knowing you can stop, question, leave, choose again, even when everyone expects you to keep going.

Musically, Ashe turns that emotional conflict into classic pop drama. Produced by Noah Conrad, with songwriting contributions from Ashe, Conrad, and Annika Bennett, the track moves through tempo changes, layered vocals, and sweeping strings. It feels deliberately cinematic, almost like the soundtrack to a scene where everything is perfect on the outside while something much more complicated is happening underneath.

And perhaps that is exactly what makes the song so relatable.

Because sometimes the most important thing you can learn about love is not how to stay.

It is knowing that you are allowed to leave.

A New Chapter

“Stop The Wedding!” arrives two years after Ashe’s latest solo album, Willson, which saw her return to her Nashville and songwriting roots. The album completed a trilogy that began with Ashlyn in 2021 and continued with Rae in 2022.

Since then, Ashe has continued to evolve both personally and creatively. In 2025, she joined forces with longtime friend and collaborator Finneas as The Favors, releasing their debut album The Dream.

Now, she is stepping back into the spotlight on her own.

This summer, Ashe is also taking her songs on the road as support for Benson Boone, performing in major arenas across the United States.

Her upcoming dates include Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and San Diego, giving fans the chance to hear “Stop The Wedding!” live as Ashe begins this next chapter.

For an artist whose career was born from turning a painful experience into something beautiful, the new song feels like a natural continuation of her story.

“Moral of the Story” was about understanding what went wrong.

“Stop The Wedding!” is about realizing that you have the power to choose what happens next.

And maybe that is the most emotional part of all: Ashe is no longer looking back at her past, wondering why she stayed.

She is looking forward, knowing she could always say no.
