Over the weekend, Poppy’s “Constantly Nowhere” tour made an appearance at the Hollywood Palladium and was welcomed by a full room of devoted fans.

The night started off with Thousand Below as they were faced with a not-so-easy task of warming up the crowd as it was slowly filling up. The band played a 30-minute set, and while the audience was beginning to swing and bang their heads, the feedback remained a bit underwhelming.

Landmvrks were met with a loud cheer as the band opened their set with French lyrics. The vocalist was dressed more like Eminem rather than in traditional metal band attire, which fits the band’s identity that combines different genres, sounds, and even languages. A lot of the attendees came for Landmvrks specifically, and it showed in the energy exuding from the fans who were singing along to the songs.

Poppy came out shortly after to an explosive cheer from her fans. The stage consisted of two cubes on either side with LED screens, projecting accompanying graphics. Poppy was dressed in a satin bodysuit with laces, bows, and big, voluminous sleeves; the more innocent attire contrasted with her guttural screams and fierce presence on stage mystically.

The set included different vibes, some songs more mellow and intimate, with a guitar in her hands, and some were pure energy volcanoes that showcased the full range of Poppy’s screams.

Halfway through the show, Poppy asked the fans to make a split in the pit, “the biggest Hollywood Palladium has ever seen,” and I don’t know how true that statement is, but the fans sure did try to accomplish it. Everyone was having a great time, respectful of their pit neighbors but not shying away from banging their head, throwing their hands in the air, or shouting the lyrics to their favorite songs.

Poppy is a powerful presence on stage; even when she’s not making a sound, she can command the room with just her gaze. Through her lengthy career, she has earned the status of the pop princess of metal, as there truly is no one like her in the industry. Poppy’s music is very versatile; anyone can find something that would be to their taste, from more lyrical, intimate tracks, banshee screams, heavy breakdowns, or experimental electronic waves. She blends it all very seamlessly.

The night ended with “new way out,” ecstatic fans showered in fallen confetti, leaving every bit of energy they had left in that room, as they screamed, clapped, and danced. The tour continues for another week, so now is your last chance to catch Poppy before she heads over to Europe to support Evanescence on their tour.
