A long time in the making, Blums‘ debut album Sunk Cost Fantasy has finally arrived. It’s the project of New York City-based musician Kelsea Feder, who spent years honing her craft, discovering a sound true to herself, realized at last in the form of an ethereal art-pop record. She describes the album as a collage, born of many emotions and ideas that coalesce into a stunning mosaic of skillful vocals and eccentric synths.
Throughout the album, Blums takes the listener on a journey through reflection and heartbreak: the single “Judy” is a haunting acoustic track about the burden of generational trauma, and the cycles of pain remain a theme through tracks like “Cashout” and “Sinking/Soaring.” But through those memories also comes self-actualization, a powerful voice through which she can overcome the past and be present in the moment.
