As the lights went down and the chatter of the 10,000-person sold-out crowd fell into a hush, one random voice echoed across the rocks: “LET’S GET WEIRD.” And with that, Empire of the Sun transformed the venue into an entirely different world. Luke Steele has a larger-than-life stage presence, commanding attention from every corner of the venue. From extravagant costume changes and mesmerizing backup dancers to elaborate stage decor that feels pulled from another dimension, every detail is designed to transport the audience.
House duo Polo & Pan and electronic-disco pop band Midnight Generation opened the show, setting a colorful, escapist-like vibe for the night. The first opener, Midnight Generation, brought a blend of a little bit of funk, electronic pop, and a baseline that made it hard not to want to dance. Polo & Pan brought their iconic and hypnotic dance beats that always bounce perfectly off the rocks.
“Ask That God: Afterlife Tour” was a full performance from the first track to the last. Every movement, costume change, and dramatic pose feels made for the camera. That, paired with a setlist that keeps the crowd groovin’, Empire of the Sun delivers a performance that is impossible to simply watch — you experience it.
