George Thorogood & The Destroyers stop in at the RT 66 Casino

George Thorogood & The Destroyers bring the “Baddest Show on Earth Tour” to the RT 66 Casino award-winning Legends Theater in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The theater slowly filled in with couples ranging in age from the late 30s to 80s, all to hear the legendary and true rocker George Thorogood. The crowd was full of cowboys, ranchers, and bikers with their wives or girlfriends, all reliving a night from their younger days. As Thorogood said during the show, “Isn’t it good to be 17 again?”

The Destroyers‘ original name was Delaware Destroyers. They have been a George Thorogood backup band since 1973. Thorogood and drummer Jeff Simon are the original members of the band. They have been friends since they were kids in Wilmington, Delaware. Their first gigs were in Newark, Delaware, a college town. His unique boogie blues style boomed in the ’80s as they traveled around the United States. They are most recognized for introducing songs like Bad to the Boneand I Drink Alone,” but also made popular again through classic American rock songs like Move it on Over and Who Do You Love.” He also made the renowned song House Rent Blues (One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer).” The band has produced over 20 albums, two of them turned Platinum, six certified Gold, and recently released a live album titled The Baddest Show on Earth: Greatest Hits Live.

The venue, Legends Theater, was newly renovated in 2025, now sporting a massive sound and lighting system, complemented by excellent seating with not a bad seat in the house. Everyone present was quietly waiting for the show to begin as the lights dimmed on stage. The crowd cheered and fell silent as they were expecting Thorogood to enter the stage at any moment. Over the speakers played Eve of Destruction and the backdrop lit up.  As soon as the song was done, the band, led by Thorogood himself, walked on stage; the crowd cheered and clapped.  The opening song Rock Party was followed by Who Do You Love and then Mama Talk to Your Daughters.” He went from there, belting out all the fan favorites. After an hour and 45 minutes had passed, he ended the show with Move It On Over,” only to come back on stage to sing Born To Be Bad.” Thorogood moved around the stage with all the energy of a 20-year-old; he looks and sounds great for performing for 53 years.
