GAYLE is back with another taste of what’s to come from her upcoming album Observing Chaos. Following “junebug!” and “loving you is,” the GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter has released “bite the bullet,” an upbeat, flirtatious track that finds her turning the messy feelings of heartbreak into an exciting night out where you meet someone new.
The idea for “bite the bullet” came while GAYLE was dealing with the end of a relationship. Instead of staying home and dwelling on it, she went out, had fun, and enjoyed the excitement of meeting someone new. That mix of sadness and impulsive attraction became the starting point for the song.
“bite the bullet is an energetic pop song with punk/rock inspo that captures the feeling of meeting somebody and wanting to know everything about them! you don’t care if their past is pretty or ugly…if they have a bullet, you wanna bite it.” -GAYLE
The new single, along with “junebug!,” and “loving you is,” offers a preview of Observing Chaos. The record, due out September 18 and co-written and co-produced by GAYLE, comes after a period of major change for the artist. Following the success of “abcdefu,” GAYLE took some time to step back and focus on herself, navigating life outside of the whirlwind that came with having such a massive breakout hit. The new album covers plenty of ground, including topics of love, heartbreak, trust, partying, and the choices that come along with figuring out who you are.

Fans are already getting a chance to hear the new material in person. GAYLE recently launched her fan club, the g spot, and has been taking the upcoming album on the road through a series of listening sessions and exclusive experiences. The road trip has already made stops in Nashville and Atlanta, giving fans an early listen to the new record.
A lot has happened since “abcdefu” put GAYLE on the map. The track went multi-platinum and topped charts internationally, earning her a GRAMMY nomination for Song of the Year. The “a study of the human experience” EP further established her as a songwriter willing to get personal. “junebug!” dropped last month and quickly picked up playlist placements from Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. The track landed on Spotify’s New Music Friday, Apple Music’s New Music Daily, and Amazon’s Breakthrough Pop, while Billboard praised the song for capturing the carefree feeling of summer. GAYLE then switched gears with “loving you is,” a piano-led ballad that brought a much more emotional side of her songwriting to the forefront.
She has also kept busy outside of her own releases. GAYLE co-wrote and performed “Butterflies,” her reimagining of Crazy Town’s “Butterfly,” for the Barbie soundtrack, which was produced by Mark Ronson. Her songwriting credits also include work with Kelly Clarkson and Roddy Ricch, while she has collaborated with Lauren Spencer-Smith, Em Beihold, and blackbear.
GAYLE has appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” and has received recognition from Billboard’s “21 Under 21,” Variety’s “Power of Young Hollywood Impact Report,” YouTube’s Artist On The Rise, and MTV’s Global Push Artist program.
With “bite the bullet” out now, GAYLE is continuing to roll out Observing Chaos ahead of its September 18 release. Between the emotional honesty of “loving you is,” the carefree energy of “junebug!” and the flirtatious chaos of “bite the bullet,” the three singles are already giving fans a pretty good idea of where this next chapter is headed.
