Waterparks are keeping busy following the release of their sixth album JINX, dropping a new music video for its opening track “TELL ME WHY.”

And there’s quite a lot going on in this one. The track features Mark Hoppus, Dillon Francis, and Eric Nally. Alongside Danny Elfman appearing as “The Devil, the song tackles existential anxiety in true Waterparks fashion, turning Awsten Knight’s near-death experience into a dark and slightly ridiculous journey through mortality, the afterlife, and the bigger question of what any of it actually means.

The video brings that story to life as Knight finds himself confronting death and everything that comes after it.

Alongside the video, Waterparks announced “THE (ALMOST) NO BARRICADE TOUR,” kicking off October 27 in Salt Lake City. As the name suggests, most dates will have (almost) no barricade between the band and the crowd, making for what will probably be some very intimate and chaotic shows.

The tour runs across the United States through December 7, with multiple nights planned in Milwaukee, Asbury Park, Towson, Atlanta, Houston, and Sacramento.

“TELL ME WHY” opens JINX, an album that sees Waterparks jump between existential dread, relationships, isolation, and the stranger side of being increasingly visible as a band. Tracks including “PROWLER,” “RED GUITAR,” and”IF LYRICS WERE CONFIDENTIAL” each take the record in noticeably different directions.

Speaking about how many different periods of his life made their way onto the album, Knight joked:

“There’s, like, ten versions of me on it, looking back. Like, ‘Damn, we had the whole crew here.’”

Six albums in, that constant change is still a big part of what makes Waterparks Waterparks. JINX doesn’t really try to settle on one version of the band — and that seems to be exactly the point.
