Harry Styles has officially arrived in New York City, kicking off the United States leg of his “Together, Together” tour with a sold-out opening night at Madison Square Garden on August 26. The show marked the beginning of Styles’ massive 30-night residency at the iconic venue, with performances through October 31 for a special “Harryween” finale.

Musician and DJ Jamie xx opened the night, setting the tone for what would become a noticeably different version of the “Together, Together” show. While Styles has already taken the tour across Amsterdam, London, São Paulo, and Mexico City, his first night at MSG introduced an almost entirely refreshed setlist. Jamie xx’s DJ set flowed seamlessly into the beginning of Styles’ performance, keeping the energy in the arena building right up until Styles appeared. Rather than feeling like a separate opening act, his set blended naturally into the start of the show, creating a seamless transition.

The show opened with “Dance No More,” a change from the tour’s previous opening, which began with a recorded version of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” leading into “Are You Listening Yet?” From the very beginning, Styles made it clear that New York was in for something different, shocking the crowd with “Carolina” off his debut album, marking its first appearance on the tour. He continued to switch things up throughout the night, bringing “Kiwi” and “Cinema” into the set for the first time. “Sweet Creature” was also given a unique spotlight, with Styles’ backing singers taking the lead.

Rather than simply bringing the existing show to the United States, Styles has reworked the production and setlist for his two-month stay at Madison Square Garden. The changes give the residency its own identity, making the 30-night run feel less like another stop on the tour and more like a new chapter of “Together, Together.” Styles reimagined much of the set through mashups, remixes, and unexpected transitions between songs. Familiar tracks were given a fresh sound, creating a dynamic that felt entirely different from their original studio recordings. The approach kept the set unpredictable, allowing even well-known favorites to feel fresh for the New York crowd.

The timing of the opening night also made the performance particularly emotional. Following the death of Dolly Parton on August 25, Styles paid tribute to the country music icon during the show with “I Will Always Love You.” Parton’s recorded vocals played over the arena as Styles encouraged the audience to sing along, creating a spontaneous moment of remembrance inside MSG.

With 29 shows still ahead, the New York residency leaves plenty of room for the unexpected. Styles has already demonstrated throughout “Together, Together” that the setlist can evolve from city to city, and the MSG residency could bring even more surprises as it continues. If opening night was any indication, New York is only just getting started.
