Akron/Cleveland metalcore band Dead Cassette has released their new single “Enemy Inside,” out now through Theoria Records.
The track arrives alongside the announcement of the band’s upcoming EP “Gold to Rust,” set for release on Friday, October 16. Built around internal conflict and emotional pressure, “Enemy Inside” introduces the next chapter of Dead Cassette with a sound that is heavy, melodic, and built for release.
Speaking on the single, the band shared that “Enemy Inside” tackles the internal struggles many people carry and the way anxiety can become overwhelming enough to make someone feel like their own worst enemy.
That tension sits at the center of the track. “Enemy Inside” leans into Dead Cassette’s blend of crushing riffs, cathartic hooks, and emotionally driven metalcore, turning personal struggle into something direct and forceful. It is heavy without losing its melodic core, giving the song the kind of shape that can connect with fans of bands like Wage War, Memphis May Fire, Fit For A King, and Kingdom of Giants.
The band’s upcoming EP “Gold to Rust” expands that emotional world across seven tracks. Dead Cassette describes the project as a journey through darker corners of the human experience, with each song exploring a different kind of conflict. The EP moves through themes of anxiety, pain, betrayal, loyalty, manipulation, and the fragile line between protection and harm.
The title “Gold to Rust” reflects the way beautiful things can decay over time. At the center of the EP is the image of a heart held by hands with claw-like fingernails, symbolizing something fragile being protected, possessed, and potentially damaged by the very thing holding it. That visual gives the project a clear emotional frame, tying the songs together as pieces of the same larger story.
Hailing from Northeast Ohio, Dead Cassette has built their sound around modern metalcore intensity, haunting melodic hook lines, and lyrics rooted in personal struggle. The band first gained traction with their 2022 debut album Revive, later continuing to develop their presence in the regional heavy music scene through energetic live performances and singles including “If Love Was Lost” and “Sink or Swim.”
With “Enemy Inside,” Dead Cassette sharpens that foundation into something immediate. The single hits with the force expected from modern metalcore, but the emotional weight behind it gives the track its staying power. Rather than treating anxiety as a vague theme, the band places it directly in the center of the song, giving listeners a clear point of connection.
“Enemy Inside” is available now through Theoria Records. “Gold to Rust” arrives October 16.
