The MoonPay X Games League is taking its next major step into winter competition, and the first four Winter Clubs now have the people tasked with building them.
X Games announced Olympic champion Jonny Moseley, action sports executive David Sypniewski, athlete marketing leader Sharalee “Haze” Hazen, and Canadian action sports media executive Ryan Stutt as the four general managers who will lead the league’s founding Winter Clubs ahead of the inaugural 2027 season.
The announcement also confirms X Games Club Whistler, or XC Whistler, as the fourth and final founding XGL Winter Club. It joins XC Golden State, XC New York, and XC Park City as the league prepares to expand its team-based action sports model into skiing and snowboarding.
The four general managers will oversee roster construction, athlete strategy, and club operations, beginning with the XGL Winter Draft on September 16 at Cosm Los Angeles. Each club will select a 10-athlete roster from a pool of the world’s top skiers and snowboarders, because apparently even action sports have decided fantasy draft anxiety needed to become real life.
XGL moves from summer momentum into winter:
The Winter Club announcement follows the inaugural MoonPay X Games League Summer Season, which reached 18.3 million U.S. television viewers across ABC and ESPN, marking a 78.5 percent increase compared with 2025.
XC New York captured the first XGL championship in New Orleans, defeating XC Tokyo by just 10 points on the final run of the season. New York finished with 2,640 points, narrowly ahead of Tokyo’s 2,630, giving the new league the kind of dramatic ending every sports property claims it wants until everyone involved needs three days to recover.
Now, XGL shifts that format into winter. The move changes what X Games competition can look like, turning individual disciplines and one-off events into a season-long club structure with rosters, strategy, fan bases, and championship stakes.
“For the first time in X Games history, someone has to build a championship roster, not just produce a championship run,” said Jeremy Bloom, CEO of X Games. “That makes the GM role incredibly important. Jonny, Dave, Haze, and Ryan each bring deep credibility with athletes, real roots in these sports, and a different point of view on how to build a winning club. They now get to make the first roster decisions in X Games history that will impact an entire winter season.”
Jonny Moseley leads XC Golden State:
Olympic gold medalist Jonny Moseley will serve as general manager of XC Golden State, bringing one of skiing’s most recognizable names into the league’s first winter roster-building cycle.
Moseley is a World Cup champion and one of the most influential skiers of his generation. His performance at the 1998 Nagano Olympics helped push modern freeskiing forward, and he became the first skier to medal at both the Olympics and X Games. After his competitive career, he became a prominent television host, commentator, and industry voice across skiing and action sports.
For XC Golden State, Moseley’s connection to Northern California and Lake Tahoe gives the club a clear regional identity from the start. His skiing career began there, and his role now ties that history to XGL’s first winter season.
“Growing up in Northern California, I saw firsthand how the Bay Area and Lake Tahoe helped shape skiing and snowboarding,” Moseley said. “It’s where I learned to ski, where I competed, and where my passion for the sport began. To come back and lead XC Golden State is incredibly meaningful.”
Moseley added that the club has an opportunity to reflect the region’s innovation, creativity, and competitive spirit while chasing the first X Games League Winter Championship.
Dave Sypniewski takes over XC New York:
Dave Sypniewski will lead XC New York as the club looks to carry over the championship success of its Summer Club into the Winter Season.
Sypniewski has spent his career growing the business side of snowboarding, connecting athletes, brands, and fans through marketing, partnerships, and events. His background includes work with organizations including Thrasher, Burton, and Boost Mobile, where he helped create athlete opportunities, build partnerships, and strengthen the commercial foundation around the sport.
He will also have major experience beside him. Barrett Christy Cummins, an 11-time X Games medalist, U.S. Olympian, and U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame inductee, will join XC New York as Special Advisor.
“The X Games League creates a whole new way to think about team building in action sports,” Sypniewski said. “Success won’t come from one superstar. It’ll come from putting together a club with the right mix of talent, versatility and competitive mindset.”
For XC New York, the challenge is obvious. The name already carries momentum after the Summer Club’s title. Now the winter side has to prove that championship identity can survive a new roster, new disciplines, and a completely different competitive environment.
Sharalee “Haze” Hazen builds XC Park City:
Sharalee “Haze” Hazen will serve as general manager of XC Park City, bringing experience in athlete marketing, experiential strategy, league operations, and athlete-first event development.
Hazen most recently served as general manager of XC Los Angeles during XGL’s inaugural Summer Season. She also co-created The Uninvited Invitational, a platform that helped create new competitive and cultural opportunities for athletes. That background positions her as a fitting choice for a winter club rooted in both performance and athlete identity.
“Action sports have always been about pushing boundaries, building community and creating opportunities for athletes to thrive,” Hazen said. “The X Games League takes that to another level by giving athletes, fans and clubs a shared journey throughout the season.”
Hazen said XC Park City’s goal is to create an environment where athletes feel supported, authentic stories emerge naturally, and fans connect with the team both on and off the snow.
That approach matters in a league trying to build something larger than a points table. XGL’s club format depends on fans caring about rosters, personalities, regional identity, and storylines across an entire season. Hazen’s background sits directly in that intersection, which is nice, because sports leagues do occasionally benefit from hiring people who understand athletes as humans instead of stat furniture.
Ryan Stutt Gives XC Whistler Its Identity
Ryan Stutt will lead newly confirmed XC Whistler, giving the fourth founding Winter Club a general manager deeply tied to Canadian ski and snowboard culture.
Stutt is the founder of Forecast Ski and King Snow, two Canadian media outlets that have documented and shaped the country’s winter action sports scene. He has spent more than two decades elevating athletes, telling stories, and building platforms around Canadian skiing and snowboarding.
Most recently, Stutt produced and co-directed the award-winning documentary “Our Kind of Chaos,” which chronicles the influential Whistler-based snowboard film series Whiskey and its impact on modern snowboarding.
As general manager, Stutt will guide XC Whistler’s competitive and cultural strategy while building a roster designed to reflect one of the most important locations in winter action sports.
“Whistler represents the pinnacle of ski and snowboard culture,” Stutt said. “The expectation here is excellence, and that’s exactly how we’ll approach the X Games League. We’re committed to creating a culture that attracts elite athletes, embraces progression and competes for championships while honoring the legacy that makes Whistler special.”
XGL Winter Draft comes to Cosm Los Angeles:
The first XGL Winter Draft will take place September 16 at Cosm Los Angeles, where the four general managers will select their 10-athlete rosters from among the world’s best skiers and snowboarders.
The draft will be open to fans in person, with a limited number of Superfan tickets available. The immersive setting gives XGL another opportunity to present action sports in a format that feels closer to a modern league event than a traditional competition announcement.
The inaugural MoonPay X Games League Winter Season begins in January in Aspen, with additional stops and dates still to be announced.
