Blue-haired pop-punk queen Charlotte Sands has been on the road for “The Satellite Tour” with Out In Front and Hooked Like Helen for September. It’s a relatively short run with only a handful of stops; lucky for me, there was one in Chicago the night before Riot Fest. What better way to kick off a weekend of music fun than to be at another show the night before? My review will be primarily focused on the opener, Out In Front, since it was their representative who invited me out personally. Both the other opener, Hooked Like Helen, and the headliner, Charlotte Sands, were phenomenal in every way, and I look forward to the next time I can see them perform.

Out In Front is a three-piece Los Angeles-based alternative band who are actually no strangers to me. I caught them on a run with Chicago local rockers, When The Sun Sets at The X-Ray Arcade, and instantly fell in love, especially with their cover of “Sugar We’re Goin’ Down” by Fall Out Boy. What can I say, I’m a sucker for a good cover, especially when I haven’t seen the band before. Covers are a great way to get the crowd more comfortable with you and warm up their vocals before the main act. They did reprise this cover, which I definitely sang along to. I have also been listening to one of their recent releases on repeat lately, “Wake Up,” which features Diva Bleach on vocals. I was jumping to that because it is such a catchy song.

I was not the only one in the room excited to see them, and it’s always great seeing others cheering for the opening acts. Too many times, I am at a show, and someone is talking over the music; it’s disrespectful. Every band on this lineup is female-fronted, which is not something you see too often, and it was a beautiful sight to witness. The show was a 10 out of 10 experience, and every band on the bill deserves so much love. Be sure to follow Out In Front on all social media platforms to stay up to date on everything!
