After stops in Anaheim, Reno, and Los Angeles, Chancelor Jonathan Bennett, professionally known as Chance the Rapper, made an appearance at San Francisco’s Masonic to celebrate 10 years of Coloring Book. Bennett kept it simple, dressed up in a long-sleeve tee with Luke 24:6-7 printed on it and a hat that read “Changing CBM Brother’s Mentality.” The statement piece was definitely the pants, made of denim with loose fabric hanging all around. The show started around 9:45 and kicked off with “All We Got” and “Blessings,” both off of Coloring Book. Bennett brought the energy, running around the stage, finishing the performance of “Blessings.”
Later in the setlist, fan favorites “No Problem,” featuring Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz, and “Juke Jam,” featuring Justin Bieber and Towkio, were performed, and the crowd got especially loud. After the performance of “Ultralight Beam,” the tone of the show switched and mellowed out, creating an intimate space. Fans knew “Sunday Candy” and “Same Drugs” like the back of their hand, as it brought everyone back to 2016.
Opening the show was La Reezy, a 22-year-old rapper and activist from New Orleans. He did a phenomenal job connecting with the crowd and got the energy in the crowd flowing. He recently released a new album titled Skiddle Bandana, including tracks “How Did You Love Me” and “Family Bizzy” that tell stories in beautiful ways.
