410,000+ music lovers congregated at the Kentucky Exposition Center festival grounds in Louisville, Kentucky, to celebrate the eight biggest days in music, attending Louder Than Life on September 17-20 and Bourbon & Beyond on September 24-27. Apart from access to the shows, attendees received free success to select rides at amusement park Kentucky Kingdom. The festivals generated nearly $40 million in total for the state of Kentucky.

This was the 12th year of America’s largest rock and metal festival Louder Than Life, marking the festival’s largest lineup within its history. 200+ bands played over the course of four days across seven stages. Performances included sets by My Chemical Romance, Limp Bizkit, Pierce The Veil, TOOL, and many more.

This year had many highlights and important moments that were really special for fans to see and experience. Iron Maiden had their first performance in the state of Kentucky in over forty years, Megadeth had one of their final farewell performances, Oldham County Kentucky natives Knocked Loose surprised fans with an unexpected performance, and multiple bands had reunion sets, coming back together for the festival.

I was able to get in contact with a fan and attendee of Louder Than Life to talk about her experience at the shows. Aly Neal traveled with her friends from southern Indiana for the four day adventure to see the numerous bands and experience the time of year where nothing matters but live music. In talking to her, she told me about her favorite parts of the festival.

“I love Louder Than Life! My favorite part of it is honestly the community.”

Neal talked about how kind the people were that she was around and how music seems to bring everyone together. When asked about her favorite band or set, she immediately mentioned My Chemical Romance. She went as far as stating that she would pay the same price for a 4-day pass just to see My Chemical Romance again. They were the only headliner that she and her friends stayed the whole time for. Going back to the community she mentioned, she talked about how energetic the whole crowd was, and how it was fantastic. “I was hooked the entire time and couldn’t take my eyes off the show” she states.

Neal also brought attention to a lot of the smaller bands and how that is also some of her favorite parts of the festivals. She loved watching and finding new bands she loves by staying for the lesser-known bands at smaller stages. A band she got into after Louder Than Life was the Pennsylvania band Circa Survive, though everyone she saw she said puts on an “amazing show.”

A Day to Remember – Steve Thrasher

“Amps were cranked, the pyro was in full force, and memories were made for everyone in attendance.”

The week after Louder Than Life was Bourbon & Beyond, the World’s Largest Bourbon, Food, and Music Festival. Celebrating it’s eighth year with five stages covering 100+ artists, the festival hosted musicians and bands such as Foo Fighters, Chris Stapleton, Kacey Musgraves, Hootie & The Blowfish, Dave Matthews Band, and more. Kentucky’s Governor Andy Beshear joined music industry leaders and officials onstage to announce the Governor’s Office of Music. This new department is dedicated to highlighting and supporting Kentucky music legacy and to help support local artist, venues, festivals, and music business across the state.

Some highlights of the weekend were Dave Matthews Band celebrating 30 years of their album Crash with a special appearance by fiddler Jake Simpson of The Lil Smokies, Lisa Loeb played her album Tails from beginning to end on the 25th anniversary of the album, and Chris Stapleton joined Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley at the Fork & Flask stage for an exciting conversation about Traveler Whiskey.

“[The] mix of great music, Kentucky bourbon and good food came with a distinctly warm sense of hospitality. It made for a memorable four days in Louisville and was a big part of what made Bourbon & Beyond 2026 feel like more than just another music festival.”

– SPIN [Bourbon & Beyond]

Purchases of passes for Louder Than Life and Bourbon & Beyond included a charity fee for the DWP Foundation, which gives back to various charities throughout the year.

Festival dates and tickets to be announced soon.
