The MoonPay X Games League will go global for its inaugural Winter Season in 2027, bringing a new three-stop format to Aspen, Calgary, and Ruka, Finland.
The season begins January 29-31 at Buttermilk in Aspen, Colorado, the longtime home of X Games winter competition. From there, the league heads to Calgary, Alberta, February 19-21, before concluding with the championship event in Ruka, Finland, April 9-11.
The Winter Season marks a major step in X Games’ new league-based structure, bringing its club format to ski and snowboard competition after the debut of the MoonPay X Games League Summer Season. Athletes will still compete for individual medals, but their results will also earn points for their clubs across the season, creating an ongoing championship race instead of a collection of isolated weekends.
Across all three winter stops, athletes will compete for four X Games Clubs: XC Golden State, XC New York, XC Park City, and XC Whistler. Those clubs will battle throughout the season for the first MoonPay X Games League Winter Championship, because apparently action sports needed standings now, and honestly, that is not the worst idea humanity has had this week.
“The league gives every X Games result meaning beyond the individual athlete and a single weekend,” X Games CEO Jeremy Bloom said. “Every performance now scores points for a club, building rivalries and a championship race across the entire season. Aspen, Calgary and Ruka give us three incredible stages to bring that vision to life.”
The format follows the first XGL Summer Season, which came down to the final event on the final day, with XC New York winning the title over XC Tokyo by just 10 points. That kind of close finish gives the Winter Season a clear template: keep the progression, creativity, and individual stakes of X Games intact while adding a season-long team race around them.
The opening stop in Aspen will continue X Games’ long history at Buttermilk while introducing the winter version of the club format. The weekend will also feature live music, with ZHU performing Friday night and Marshmello taking the stage Saturday.
Calgary will host the second stop and the first-ever X Games competition in Canada. Set at WinSport’s Canada Olympic Park, the event brings XGL to one of North America’s most established winter sports destinations. Levity will perform Friday night, with Steve Aoki performing Saturday.
The season will close in Ruka, one of Finland’s premier ski destinations and a familiar stop on the international winter sports calendar. The finale will determine the first XGL Winter champions, with Adriatique set to perform Saturday night.
The Winter Clubs will be led by General Managers Jonny Moseley for XC Golden State, Dave Sypniewski for XC New York, Sharalee “Haze” Hazen for XC Park City, and Ryan Stutt for XC Whistler. The inaugural rosters will be built at the MoonPay X Games League Winter Draft on September 16 at Cosm Los Angeles, where 40 elite ski and snowboard athletes will be selected from more than 180 eligible athletes.
Each club will feature five men and five women, giving the league a co-ed structure built around both regional identity and global talent. The format is designed to create deeper athlete-fan engagement, stronger season-long storylines, and additional earning opportunities for athletes beyond traditional prize purses.
The Winter Season also continues X Games’ push to blend competition with festival-style live entertainment. With Marshmello, ZHU, Steve Aoki, Levity, and Adriatique attached to the three stops, the series is clearly positioning each event as more than a contest weekend.
Additional details, including competition dates, disciplines, athlete rosters, broadcast and streaming information, and fan experiences for each stop, will be announced in the coming months.
