This Is Lorelei, the solo project of Nate Amos, brought his “The Singer In My Band Tour” to Phoenix this October. I was pleasantly surprised to see such a full room for an artist I don’t think has been receiving nearly enough recognition.

I have been attending shows at Valley Bar for years now, and I have never seen it that packed before. It was a sold-out show, with people standing wall to wall. The room was extremely hot due to the amount of body heat, especially considering it was a night in Phoenix.

Opener Colin Miller started the night off strong. Although I was unfamiliar with his music, his sound was well-established, and the crowd surrounding me was enjoying every minute. Miller’s music fit well within the same genre as This Is Lorelei, making him a great choice for an opener.

Shortly after Miller’s set, This Is Lorelei took the stage and started the night off strong. They opened with “Where’s Your Love Now,” which is one of my personal favorite songs from Box for Buddy, Box for Star.

Although this was a small room, the energy coming from the crowd was loud and undeniable. This was one of those shows where I knew I would likely never see the artist in a room this small again. The live renditions of the songs translated incredibly well, sounding just as good as they did on the records, if not better.

There was a three-song run toward the end of the night that really stood out to me. The songs “Two Legs,” “An Extra Beat for You and Me,” and “I’m All Fucked Up” had a hold on the audience, and it felt like there was no time to slow down between them. The energy remained high throughout, making it one of the most memorable moments of the night.
