After six years of dreaming it into existence, Moody Joody has officially released their debut album, Plain Jane, out now via Photo Finish Records. Featuring co-lead vocalists Kaitie Forbes and Kayla Hall alongside multi-instrumentalist and producer Andrew Pacheco, the trio has spent the past year steadily gaining traction. A run of singles including “Average Joe,” “Fantasyland,” “Suburbia,” “Little Blue House,” “Loretta’s Last Call,” and “OOPS!” offered glimpses into the band’s evolving sound, while exploring everything from identity and womanhood to relationships, self-discovery, and finding the confidence to carve out a life on your own terms, themes that sit at the heart of Plain Jane. It’s a record about growing up, shedding old versions of yourself, and having the nerve to become someone new, something that isn’t always easy to do, as Hall explains.

“Plain Jane was born from a place of longing to take up space, unapologetically and boldly, as a woman in the world,” says Hall. “It’s about showing up in full, authentic expression with reckless abandon, even if it means you have to burn it all down to the ground to get there. This album reflects that journey of what womanhood has meant to me, realizing that I, and only I, get to decide which past versions of myself get to come along for the ride, which ones I want and need to shed, and who I become next. Plain Jane is the alchemy of our stories as a band – of growing up in the suburbs, the nostalgia of the songs we listened to in youth and the early 2000s, our trials and tribulations in love and self discovery, the journey we had to go through to chase this crazy dream, and showing up authentically on the other side, even when it’s difficult. After six years of dreaming it into existence, Plain Jane is finally here, and we couldn’t be more proud of it.”

“We started scheming up this album in 2020 and in a way it feels like us as a band and as individuals grew up alongside Plain Jane,” adds Forbes. We wanted the album to be a stepping stone for anyone out there who feels like they don’t belong, or have big dreams, or just imagine something different for their life that they might not feel brave enough to make happen yet. I was still figuring all of that out when we started this album, and just as we are releasing it into the world, I feel like I’ve shed it all. It’s taught me to no longer be afraid of what people think, of disappointing people, of carving my own path and going against the grain. Putting it out feels like a statement to the world: ‘This is who I am & who I’ve always been.”

Pacheco sees the finished project as a reflection of that growth across the entire band. “The process was a true labor of love and growth, both as individuals and as a band,” he notes. “What we’ve ended up with is a record that feels like a fully realized version of the sonics and ethos we started back in 2020. Plain Jane is the proper Moody Joody ‘mission statement,’ and we are so grateful to have it out in the world.”

Now that Plain Jane is finally out in the world, the trio is keeping things moving. They’ve also released a new music video for “Heart Shaped Bed,” giving the album rollout another moment to celebrate.

Moody Joody is set to take their new music on the road, playing The Maine’s 8123 Fest in January before heading out on tour with Valley in 2027. It’s a pretty exciting next chapter for a band that’s spent years building toward this moment.

They’ve already got a growing audience behind them, with more than 23 million global streams to their name and support from SiriusXM’s Alt Nation, Amazon Music’s Breakthrough Pop, and Spotify playlists including New Music Friday and All New Pop. Their music has also caught the attention of Rolling Stone, The FADER, FLOOD Magazine, Notion, MTV, Entertainment Tonight, Dork, Clash, The Tennessean, and Ladygunn, among others.

From festival stages to a growing list of touring credits, Moody Joody has spent the last few years finding their footing. With Plain Jane finally out in the world, Moody Joody is stepping into a new chapter with plenty to look forward to. Six years of work have led to this moment, and with a Valley tour on the horizon, it doesn’t look like the trio will be slowing down anytime soon.
