The Afghan Whigs have announced their new single, “Duvateen,” released via BMG. The track is a piano-driven anthem that shows the band at their most dynamic while still keeping the signature dark edge they’re known for.
The title “Duvateen” references a light-manipulating material, which the band uses here as a symbol for mortality — the idea that there’s always something darker sitting just behind everything in life.
Frontman Greg Dulli shared, “When I finished ‘Duvateen,’ it felt like my life passing before my eyes. The references to the teacher chasing me down the hall reminded me of my childhood. Digging a hole was an obvious allusion to a grave. I’m at a point where I can clearly see my past, but also what’s ahead—and that’s going to shape everything I do moving forward.”
The release follows “House of I,” their first new music since 2022, which got attention from outlets like Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and SPIN. Both singles are leading into a new album expected later this year, with more details coming soon.
The Afghan Whigs are also heading out on tour, with U.S. dates running through the end of May, followed by shows in the U.K. this September.
