MORTEM

Norwegian extreme metal band Mortem have announced their new album Mørketid, set for release via Peaceville on July 3. Combining brooding, mid-paced monumental riffs with bursts of hyperspeed black metal, the album marks a clear progression from their 2019 debut Ravnsvart, featuring eight tracks of savage, eerie, and often epic black metal alongside the keyboard textures of Sverd, Hellhammer’s unmistakable percussive prowess, and the returning snarls of vocalist Marius Vold.

Formed by Marius Vold and Steinar Sverd Johnsen in 1989, Mortem was one of the first black metal bands to emerge from Norway, releasing the highly coveted “Slow Death” demo with Euronymous and Dead of Mayhem acting as producer and cover artist, respectively. After years of dormancy — with members going on to form acclaimed acts including Arcturus and Thorns — the band returned in 2019 with Ravnsvart, recapturing the spirit and brutality of the original incarnation while injecting new atmospheric elements. Mørketid was recorded at Toproom Studio in Norway by Børge Finnstad and Kevin Kleiven.

Mørketid will be available on limited-edition oxblood-red vinyl, classic black vinyl, CD with a 12-page printed booklet, and digitally. Pre-order available now.
