International music icon, producer, and entrepreneur Pepe Aguilar has been named to Billboard’s Indie Power Players list for the first time, in recognition of his growing influence as one of the most important voices in Latin music and as one of the pioneering independent executives shaping the future of the industry.

The recognition marks a historic milestone for Aguilar and the independent companies he has built throughout his career, including Equinoccio Records, Machin Records, and his publishing company — all founded under a long-standing vision centered on ownership, artistic freedom, and cultural authenticity. Founded in 2000, Equinoccio Records became one of the first major independent labels in Mexico and Latin America, helping establish a model for artist ownership years before it became common practice in the Latin music industry. In recent years, artists under Machin Records have earned multiple GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY nominations and wins, further solidifying the company’s position within the evolving landscape of Latin music.
