The Nashville-based band LOCKSTEP incorporates elements of heavy rock, doom, and shoegaze. They have created a sound that alternates between quiet, unsettling intervals and deafening walls of sound, all based on atmosphere and weight. The band has tightened its strategy with every release, focusing on impact and eliminating excess.
After releasing a number of singles – the most recent being “Drag Along” in 2025, the “Arrival” EP in 2023, and performances and tours with Prize Horse, Gumm, and other artists – LOCKSTEP’s upcoming debut full-length, I Know What I Saw, is the band’s most concentrated and comprehensive statement yet. “This record is, without a doubt, our most dialed material yet in every sense,” says drummer/vocalist Austin Rolison. “We put a lot of trust and focus into our sonic instincts and ended up with eight songs that I feel truly define everything LOCKSTEP is at this point.”
I Know What I Saw leans on deep, layered guitars and enormous, slow-burning riffs that never let up, locking into parts that are simultaneously fascinating and oppressive. Songs purposefully develop and stretch, drawing listeners further into the band’s world while maintaining a steady sense of tension and release. “Ash in the Water,” the album’s debut single, is “more mid-tempo than anything we’ve done before, and I think serves as a perfect glimpse into the album,” according to Rolison.
