“The Paradox’s brand of Black pop-punk” debut on NPR’s Tiny Desk

Atlanta rock band The Paradox performed at NPR Tiny Desk as part of the platform’s Black Music Month programming, which brings one of the most intriguing new talents in rock to one of music’s most beloved platforms. In the set, the band discusses their greater objective of “putting rock back in the hands of the originators,” highlighting the larger cultural significance behind their rise and expanding effect. Their presence comes just days after the release of their soaring new single, “Good For Me,” which launches a daring new chapter.

The Paradox played a powerful six-song set, covering the songs that have fuelled their breakout and where they are headed next: “Get The Message,” “Bender,” “Good For Me,” “I Kinda Like That,” “Ms Lauren,” and “Do Me Like That.”

The Paradox proves themselves as a band moving well past the confines of a typical alt-rock breakout with their Tiny Desk performance today. Earlier this year, they made history as the first all-Black band to reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart with their breakout single “Get The Message.” The momentous triumph was a seismic shift not only for the band but for the future of alternative music itself. The momentum continued with “Do Me Like That,” which debuted at No. 47 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart and No. 4 on Billboard’s Alternative Digital Song Sales chart.

The band’s profile continues to grow on many fronts. Earlier this month, The Paradox were picked to be part of the YouTube Foundry Class of 2026, one of YouTube Music’s global artist development programs that offer funding, specialized partner assistance, promotional opportunities, and educational materials to help independent artists grow. With the  NPR Tiny Desk performance, the breakout popularity of “Good For Me,” and more new songs to come, the band is quickly establishing itself as one of the defining new voices in rock.

Formed in Atlanta in the summer of 2024, The Paradox — Eric Dangerfield (vocals/guitar), Christopher “Xelan” Bernard (lead guitar/vocals), Donald Bryant (bass), and Percy “PC3” Crews (drums) — are redefining the look, sound, and possibilities of modern rock. As four young Black musicians from a city more commonly associated with rap and R&B, they have emerged as leaders of a new generation.
