WORMWOOD, one of Sweden’s most distinctive and widely acclaimed metal bands, are delighted to present their new single, “YRA / EXTAS,” taken from their forthcoming EP “Å,” which further solidifies the band’s status as one of the most innovative forces in modern extreme metal. The new EP will be released on August 7 via Black Lodge Records / Sound Pollution.
The music video that accompanies “YRA / EXTAS” is a collaboration with Svartna Film and actress Astrid Hallén, and takes place in present-day Stockholm, Sweden. Based on true crime incidents, the video follows a single mother on the margins of society as she struggles with inner demons, self-destructive impulses, and a downward slide into the absolute abyss.
The video stylistically draws on the dismal, atmospheric tone of Scandinavian crime literature, the genre known as Nordic Noir.

Four full-length albums, an EP, a live release, and now the upcoming “Å” have developed a discography that constantly progresses whilst furthering the band’s unique identity. Their work has been widely recognized: two nominations for Rock/Metal of the Year at P3 Guld, strong rankings on the official Swedish charts, and repeated international accolades from metal publications throughout the world. WORMWOOD have also featured on numerous international Album of the Year lists — evidence of their expanding impact.
But WORMWOOD’s renown extends beyond the studio. The band have toured extensively throughout Europe, played major festivals, and have done their own headline tours. Their following continues to grow gradually, especially in Germany, France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States, where their dramatic music videos and strong digital presence further enhance their visual and sonic identity.
Today WORMWOOD is one of the most progressive and exciting bands of Swedish metal. “Å” is yet another step forward in their artistic journey, one that will undoubtedly enthrall both dedicated fans and new listeners worldwide.
Since forming in Stockholm in 2014, WORMWOOD have evolved a sound that is as distinctive as it is ambient. With their trademark blend of extreme metal, Scandinavian melancholy and folk influences, combined with cinematic storytelling, the band has created a soundscape that is moving and mesmerizing. Their music moves easily between scale and grandeur and raw, brutalized fury – a balancing act few bands really get right.
