About ANGELS ON THE BATTLEFIELD
ANGELS ON THE BATTLEFIELD, from Los Angeles, California, started off as a side project for guitarist JD McGibney (ex-VOODOO KUNGFU) before becoming a complete line-up in 2021. The instrumental symphonic progressive metal band now includes McGibney, Jason Klein on bass (ex-BUTCHER BABIES), Eddie Trager on drums (ex-NEKROGOBLIKON) and Chris Wirsig on keyboards (award winning TV and film composer).
The band’s ethos is to empower through music, to support those battling their own struggles, and to give them courage. ANGELS ON THE BATTLEFIELD brings awareness and discussion to mental illness through the strength of heavy metal. The band made their live debut at the 2022 “This Is My Brave” mental health fundraiser where the band helped generate over $30,000 to go to local Los Angeles mental health agencies.
ANGELS ON THE BATTLEFIELD opened for folk metal musician NiNi at her first United States headline gig in November of 2024. Next year, the quintet will make their way to the West Coast for their first ever headline tour in October/November 2025.
ANGELS ON THE BATTLEFIELD’s 2024 song “Modern Prometheus” was long listed for the 2025 Grammy Awards in three categories, including Best Metal Performance, Best Instrumental Composition and Best Arrangement – Instrumental or Acapella. “Modern Prometheus” was also nominated in 2025 at the Hollywood Independent Music Awards.
Most recently, the band released their haunting interpretation of “Phantom of the Opera” with guitarist Eli Santana (IGNITE, ex-HUNTRESS, ex-HOLY GRAIL), and demonstrated their untamable strength on their cover of “Poison” with ANTHEA.
