The Cranberries have released Live At The London Astoria II, 1994 for the first time through Island/UMe.
The 15-track live album captures The Cranberries during an exciting time in their career, before they became one of Ireland’s biggest bands. Recorded at London’s famous Astoria, the show gives fans a chance to hear the band live during the early days of their rise.
The album includes seven songs from their debut album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?, including “Pretty,” “Linger,” and “Dreams.” It also features six songs from No Need to Argue, including “Dreaming My Dreams,” “Daffodil Lament,” “Empty,” and “Zombie.”
The release also includes “Liar,” which was featured on the Empire Records soundtrack, and “So Cold in Ireland,” which was originally released as a B-side to “Ode to My Family.”
One of the biggest moments on the album is the early live version of “Zombie.” Just seven months after this performance, the song would be released as a single and go on to become one of The Cranberries’ biggest songs around the world. “Zombie” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart in the U.S. and topped the charts in several countries. Today, the song has more than 1.8 billion views on YouTube and remains one of the most well-known songs of the ’90s.
Drummer Fergal Lawler remembers the night fondly:
“It was such a buzz playing in The Astoria. We had returned from the U.S. and taken a bit of time off for Christmas. This was our first concert back in London after achieving such success in America. We were delighted to see a few of our hardcore fans at the front of the stage. I think we felt proud that all our hard work had finally come to fruition.”
Live At The London Astoria II, 1994 gives fans a look back at The Cranberries before they reached worldwide fame. It captures the energy of a band finding its way, playing to fans who were there from the beginning, and showing just how special those early years were.
