The Hails share the next taste of their new album Duckpond with the song “Pack It Up.” “Pack It Up” is defiantly itself, a darker, elder sibling of their previous songs that has lived a longer existence. The Hails don’t concentrate on what may have been or what’s still out there for too long; they see themselves as the consequence of chain reactions.

“Pack It Up” feels like an ode to Julian Casablancas’ melodic capabilities – so much so that I was scared we were blatantly ripping off something from his discography,” jokes lead singer Robbie Kingsley. “It carries the same vibe and feeling ‘Instant Crush’ gives me, but then it ventures off into an outro that doesn’t feel like anything he would even touch, which I do find a bit funny.”

Duckpond was created by Brandon Shoop (Role Model, Dijon, Junior Varsity) and will release in full on October 23 on ONErpm. Band members from Miami, D.C., and Brooklyn came together at a house they rented in South Florida last summer, with the goal of going back to the basics and creating in the same room together. What emerges is a sophomore album born of disillusionment, which is between the optimistic future we were sold and the imperfect reality we ended up with.

Guitarist Dylan McCue shared, “It may seem like this album wants to shake its fist at the world, but really it wants to find beauty and levity in unlikely places and remind itself of the power of human connection in an increasingly large and distant world.”

Over the course of their album’s official videos, The Hails are seen as a gang of 1930s pinsetters fighting against automation to hold onto their jobs – a sentiment not lost on an indie band in 2026. Directed by Steven Konnovitch x Cultivision, today’s cut features the band performing in the streets of New York, with something about the perspective constantly feeling just slightly wrong.

The Hails are hitting the road for their headline tour, kicking off next month with stops including Brooklyn, New York’s Elsewhere (Oct. 29), Echoplex in Los Angeles (Nov. 14), and a triumphant return to their home state of Florida for gigs in Miami (Nov. 20) and Tampa (Nov. 21). The Hails will open for Ax and the Hatchetmen on seven performances leading up to the headlining run. All forthcoming tour dates are below.
