Just earlier this year, The Pretty Reckless released their fifth album, DEAR GOD. The Pretty Reckless is a record-breaking, Platinum-selling rock band fronted by Taylor Momsen, known for previous acting roles in “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” and Gossip Girl. Her music career debuted in 2010 with the album, Light Me Up, since then Momsen has been making quite a name for herself through her powerful, raw vocals and haunting vulnerability lyricism.
Momsen commented that the song “About You” is her favorite song from the album and wanted to take it a step further, creating an even more special version. She called up Dave Grohl and Pat Smear from the Foo Fighters, asking if they’d lend a hand in making this version happen; sure enough, they agreed. Similar to the original version, “About You” starts off with a catchy riff before Momsen’s gritty vocals cut through. The bonus version digs more into a heavier rock sound, really emphasizing how strong Momsen’s vocals can really be.
This album embraces the emotions of vulnerability, intensity, and creative freedom, which makes this release one of their most unfiltered creations to date. The Pretty Reckless are unapologetic in creating a sound that pushes forward, connecting to their listeners authentically. This new version of “About You” shows nothing less than Momsen being entirely true to herself and her sound.
I especially love how much heavier this version is and puts on full display how this song is about calling someone out for their lies, because what does it say about someone when they cannot be trusted after believing in them for so long? I’d imagine that it is not a very good look, and this new version is going to be on repeat in my head for a while.
The Pretty Reckless wrapped up the United States leg of the “Dear God Tour,” but you can catch them next month on the European/United Kingdom leg.
